The Department of Agricultural, Forest and Food Sciences.
The Department of Agricultural, Forest and Food Sciences (DISAFA) of the University of Torino was formed in 2012 by the merger of the five departments that made up the Faculty of Agriculture. It is home to research with regard to primary production and processing of plants and animals, as well as the interactions of these activities with the land and environment.
Considering economic and environmental factors, as well as employing a biotechnological approach, the Department investigates agricultural and forest ecosystems, along with agrifood supply chains, encompassing biological, production, ecological, technological, engineering, and management aspects. The Department’s multidisciplinary approach is not only a necessity dictated by the complexity of production and transformation processes but also a value that enhances the perspectives of individual disciplines.
FFor the period spanning from 2018 to 2022, within Area 07 (Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences), as per rankings compiled by ANVUR, the project
presented by DISAFA emerged as the top-ranked nationwide among the 180 submissions received. Indeed, the Department’s project titled “GLOBAL QUALITY IN THE AGRICULTURAL FOOD SYSTEM” received the highest evaluation for research quality, scientific organizational and educational design, and alignment with the research objectives of Agriculture and Industry 4.0, as well as the initiative “FOOD2030: Research and Innovation for Tomorrow’s Nutrition and Food Systems.”
