left;\">Specifically, the project involves the implementation of three innovative solutions: a variable-rate sprayer equipped with canopy characterization sensors, an automated fixed spraying system, and a pneumatic sprayer with electrostatic charge technology.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">The objective of the trials will be to assess the potential of these technologies to reduce the environmental impact of crop protection treatments by minimizing spray drift, water consumption, and the amount of plant protection products used.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">The project also aims to optimize working times and farm operating costs while simultaneously improving the quality of fruit production. This interest stems from the strategic potential of UAVs, particularly in steep slope vineyards where conventional pesticide applications are carried out manually (e.g., knapsack sprayers, hand-held lances) or, where feasible, with ground-based sprayers. These conventional methods pose risks to both operators, due to high exposure to pesticides, and the environment.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">Given the challenges associated with conventional techniques in difficult landscape scenarios and farmers&#8217; increasing interest in UAVs as an alternative, it is crucial to define and optimize specific UAV operations and configurations to effectively and efficiently utilize this technology. While previous activities related to UAV pesticide applications in vineyards have been documented in the literature, there remains limited information on the biological efficacy of these systems in viticulture.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">In response to this need, the 3E-UAVspray project, led by Torino University\u00a0 and involving CPT DISAFA as well as two departments\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">\u00a0<\/span>(DISTAS and DIPROVES)\u00a0of the Universit\u00e0 Cattolica del Sacro Cuore &#8211; Piacenza branch\u00a0 \u00a0aims to explore and define the optimal spray program for UAV application in vineyards located in steep slope landscapes. Through a holistic approach, the project seeks to address key challenges and optimize pesticide application techniques using UAVs to ensure effective and environmentally sustainable pest management
